ME_286_GodWontLetYouDownThe likelihood of a supreme being creating Earth and judging the deeds of humankind has been a topic of debate since the dawn of humanity. Atheists frequently state the fact that there is no factual proof that God is real is itself the evidence that no such being exists. However, the proponents of creationism and monotheism introduce plausible arguments, which may be not factual, but still possess a significantly persuasive component.

Members of religious groups hold up their holy books as evidence of a divine power. The issue here is that there is little proof the events detailed in these books actually happened. Some scholars state certain biblical events can be proven to be false. In the journal “Creation Versus Evolution,” Professor Sedrick Edwards points out that the Christian version of how the world came into being includes a number of assertions that have since been disproved by the scientific community (Sedrick 56). Even if religious texts were backed up by science and history, this alone would not be sufficient evidence that everything that is included in them is factual.

Atheists cannot use inaccuracies in holy books as proof that God does not exist, as it is possible that such a god exists who has never been mentioned in religious texts. It is also possible that these books have been corrupted over a period of time, but still have elements of truth in them. Disproving any single religion’s validity does not disprove the presence of a supreme being; it simply means the depiction of God associated with the faith in question can be said to be false (Castor 676).

In the journal “Tuatari,” Professor Gordon Hewatt points out that Christians cite the level to which creatures have adapted to their environment as proof that they were designed (Hewatt 47). However, Hewatt expresses the view that this is more likely to be due to evolution. Even if it were possible to prove for certain that the world was created, this would not be evidence that it was ‘designed by God,’ as it could have been designed by any number of other ‘beings.’

If an omnipotent higher power does exist, then by its very nature it would possess the capability to conceal itself in such a manner that it would be impossible to detect. It would only be possible to prove that it existed if it wished its presence to be known. This means it is impossible to say whether the existence of God could be proven without knowing whether God wants people to know it is real (Castor 45).

Religious texts cannot be said to act as adequate proof that God exists, but cannot be used to disprove its existence either. The only way its existence could be proven would be if it desired humankind to prove its existence. If this was to occur, it could be argued that it would be a case of God revealing itself to humans as opposed to humans proving its existence.
