“We can’t really police our way out of this… So it might seem counterintuitive, but some of the best ways to promote academic integrity are really the old school methods of small class sizes, faculty-student relationships.”

On the other hand, Pepperdine University has adopted a different strategy in dealing with the integration of AI in academic settings. They are actively using software like Turnitin to detect the use of AI in student work. Associate Professor Jennifer Miyake-Trapp from Pepperdine University describes their balanced approach:
“Pepperdine has wisely stepped up… allowing faculty, within reason, to use discretion and to use our professional judgment about the ways in which we’re going to incorporate AI.”

Meanwhile, Biola sophomore Clarissa Jocelyn expresses her cautious approach:
“Honestly, it’s been efficient, time-saving, effective… but I want to be careful in terms of my own usage of AI.”
The Turnitin study further reveals a shift in perceptions, with almost half of the students surveyed seeing a positive impact of AI on their learning.
