Quick Overview

Since 2004 iThenticate has been of great aid for students. Powered by Turnitin, another powerful anti-plagiarism service, it promises to secure original work. Having tried the tool ourselves, AcademicHelp has been working hard to answer the question of what is the best plagiarism checker. While overall plagiarism detection results are satisfactory, iThenticate needs to introduce more features and become more affordable for the majority of students. See How We Test Plagiarism Checkers for more details about our testing approach.

iThenticate’s Plagiarism Detection quality — 46/50⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

iThenticate performs well in detecting plagiarism in human-written and internet-sourced texts, with high accuracy rates of 99% and 97%, respectively. However, wee see that it struggles with AI-paraphrased content, detecting only 20% of plagiarism. It does excel in identifying text modifications, flagging 99% of such plagiarism. Overall, iThenticate is reliable for traditional plagiarism detection but may not be the best choice for detecting more sophisticated AI-assisted plagiarism.

iThenticate’s Value for Money — 14/25⭐️⭐️⭐️

iThenticate’s value for money, in our eyes, is rather questionable. Its pricing is on the higher end, with plans starting at $100 for a single user and $300 for multiple users. Yet, there’s a lack of discounts and a free trial that further diminishes its value proposition. While it offers a comprehensive plagiarism detection service, the high cost and limited features for personal use make it less appealing for individual users.

iThenticate’s Overall Experience — 13/25⭐️⭐️⭐️

Our overall experience with iThenticate was mixed. The website wasn’t particularly user-friendly, and the lack of a desktop version and browser extensions may become even more od an inconvenience for other users. The registration process is straightforward, but the absence of a free trial is a significant drawback. We also need to note that the support here is limited, with no on-site chat available, and despite the provided onboarding. The checking process is relatively quick, taking up to one minute.

Conclusion

iThenticate is a solid plagiarism checker for academic and research institutions, offering high accuracy in detecting traditional plagiarism. However, we still think that its high cost, limited features for personal use, and poor performance in detecting AI-paraphrased content make it less suitable for individual users or those dealing with advanced plagiarism techniques.
