Hello, Ia m writing a five paragraph comparison/contrasting essay on the Differences and Similarities between two short stories. This is my thesis: Both By the Waters of Babylon and After the Sirens tell the story of humanity after our self destruction, although they use very similar methods in conveying their story to us, they still differ considerably at times. Can you offer any insight or feedback? Thanks so much! ( I'm a grade 10 student)

First, I would say to ask your instructor if this is okay. There is no harm in doing this. Secondly, I think it would be enough to mention in one or two sentences what the entire article is about and then discuss the selected parts thoroughly.
  7. HELP! I am experiencing either writer's block or more likely spending way too much time reading and over-analyzing many of the academic articles I've come across and had a hard time choosing the best one for my assignment. Basically, torturing myself for nothing over my critical thinking essay for my Anthro class. We were instructed to choose any ONE article in our textbook we had interest in (which was written back in the 70's) ONE academic article of a later published date (2010-present). The purpose of this assignment is to think critically and theoretically on both articles and compare these theories to see if they are still relevant or not today. Not to mention the articles must have similar subjects. This was a challenge. It seemed like a piece of cake until I found myself trying to find a very specific article (since this subject touches upon various aspects of the ritual I chose) and had difficulty choosing one (UNTIL NOW: 1) because I give up 2. it's shorter and not a novel 3. running out of time...actually past due because of medical issues, etc). ANYWAY, the article I'm sticking with has many similarities to the original article in my book which is perfect, however, many parts discussed on the recent article aren't relevant to the original article. My questions are: 1. Do I have to summarize the ENTIRE recent article or would it be acceptable to just focus on the very scientific methods and even physiological/biological approaches they discuss in modern research and field studies which I can use to argue some of these theories. This wasn't specified so I'm taking a shot in the dark.

Hello. In our opinion, you might want to make your thesis statement more declarative, so that it would express your opinion on the subject. For example, you might formulate it like, “Men and women have different styles of parenting that sometimes coincide.” Or, “Men and women have similar styles of parenting, with a few differences.” It depends on the arguments you are going to introduce. Thank you.
