Hi! I am advised to avoid cliches in writing. But I don’t think I fully undertand what is a cliche. Can you explain?

Hello. A cliche is a word, phrase, or expression that has become hackneyed and overused. For example, phrases like, “Do not burn all bridges behind you,” “When life gives me lemons, I make lemonade,” “avoid like a plague,” are typical cliches.
